March Break Fun

While our groundhog predicts an early spring, it isn’t time to say goodbye to winter activities just yet. The chain of lakes which make up the Kawarthas provide the perfect backdrop to a magical Hallmark movie.

Frosted windows and snowy landscapes show us how beautiful nature is and has always been. In every state, Kawartha offers a chance for quality time.

Take this March Break to discover a few fun winter activities the whole family could enjoy.

After months of braving the cold, March break promises a glimpse of longer days. The sun will begin to set later, and temperatures promise to warm up. The question is… how do you occupy the kids for five days straight?

Whether you’ve chosen to hibernate all season or revel in the snow, March break is your perfect opportunity to rediscover the Kawarthas. Take advantage of all there is to see and experience the joy of winter in the Kawartha Lakes.

At Fenelon Falls Brewing Co., we value quality time. We believe in toasting good company, and treasuring each moment spent surrounded by nature. Cherish your time around loved ones and keep this note handy for the week ahead.

Ice skate around town

There is something so nostalgic about slipping on a pair of hand-me-down ice skates that live in a box about 8 months of the year. Tugging on your laces until your hands are sore, and gliding off into the moonlight. There is no care left in the world other than the delicate sheet of ice beneath your feet. The city invites locals as well as visitors to the many rinks ready for a night of leisure skating.

Coast in the cold and enjoy some fresh air at Kawartha’s outdoor rinks left open for the season. Burnt River Community Centre, Logie Park, and Tommy Anderson Park are all options to look into weather permitting. If the family prefers a more sheltered approach to the sport, check out a list of indoor rinks here

Hit the slopes

It’s never too early to get the kids started down the slopes. Take the time to teach them early and before you know it, you may be raising a future Olympian. While Kawartha may be known for its stunning views and charming waterfronts, the town doesn’t lack when it comes to classic skiing. The Kawartha Nordic Ski Club is located in North Kawartha Township, Peterborough County, Ontario. From training programs to season passes, this ski club has it all!

Nordic Ski Club gives opportunities for alpine athletes of all levels. Downhill skiing, cross-country, and snowshoeing are just a few of the options waiting for you.

You could follow their Twitter page (@KawarthaNordic) for updates on conditions, and sneak peeks of what you’ll expect from your visit to the chalet.

Indulge your creative side

Although the kids may be looking forward to a week of cozy movie nights, outdoor adventures, and an overall break away from studying… who’s to say the library is off-limits? Kawartha Lakes Public Library is hosting a plethora of events all month long and the itinerary for March 13th-17th is nothing short of exciting. Different branches plan to host various events, which include crafting workshops, read-along literary activities, scrapbooking, knitting projects, and much more!

Explore Fenelon Falls

It has been a pleasure to provide a home away from home for the friends we’ve grown so close to since our brewery opened. No matter the season, we are here to provide a place for people to gather. Hang up your skis, shake off your boots, and warm up with housemade dishes by our chef waiting to serve you and your family.
